Newark Collection
Named after Newark, the largest city in the state of New Jersey on America’s mid-Atlantic coast, this range has something of the old colonial about it. Rustic clean square lines are embellished by an attractive top grooved feature, a simple inlayed pattern to the drawers, panelled sides and brushed steel handles. The same extremely high standards of craftsmanship that run through all of our ranges, really comes to the fore in this collection. Everything is hand made – with not a flat pack in sight. Joints are made using precision carpentry skills, not tacks.
Another facet worth noting is the exceptional quality of the solid oak we use. It’s all harvested from European forests where timbers are specially selected for suitability, then slowly kiln dried to allow even drying and therefore minimise the risk of cracking of warping. The end result is a material that is absolutely first rate for fine oak furniture. We never resort to using veneers, MDF or hardboard in any of our furniture.
The life and good looks of quality oak furniture like this is greatly enhanced by a sparing treatment of natural Danish oil 3/4 times a year applied along the grain of the timber. This nourishes the wood to maintain its condition and accentuates the beauty of the oak grain. Indeed, the appearance of oak furniture truly does improve with age if looked after in this way. This simple treatment will preserve the furniture to such an extent that it can be passed on down through generations.
